UGA Opera Theatre Student Spotlight
Evan Tyor
Hometown: Charleston SC
UGA program/major: Vocal Performance
Year in school: Senior
What is your earliest musical memory? I used to always get the Jayhawks and the Beatles mixed up when I was really little.
Does anybody else in your family work in music related business? No
Do you play any other musical instrument? I play guitar and piano
Do you have any experience, as an audience member, that influenced you as a musician? I’ve experienced many moments of inspiration as an audience member, some highlights of which were attending the Met performance of The Daughter of the Regiment and seeing Radiohead at Bonnaroo.
When did you start considering vocal performance? I was very indecisive leaving high school about where I would go to school and what I would study. I ended up landing at UGA because it seemed like the best fit and I am very glad to have happened on such a wonderful educational environment.
What do you consider as a milestone in your performance career? Having the opportunity to learn and perform the role of Papageno last semester has had a big impact on my work ethic as well as my comfort level on stage.
What was your favorite scene in past UGA Opera Theatre productions? I really enjoyed Joe Brent singing Ralph’s aria from H.M.S. Pinafore. That was the first production I participated in here at Georgia and Joe really made a great impression on me.
What is your favorite scene in the next UGA Opera Theatre production? The quintet is the most fun scene to perform, but Micaela’s aria is probably the most beautiful moment.
Do you have any hobbies? I love to write and perform music in local venues and I have recently become interested in recording local bands at my house.
If you could be or do anything else – what would it be? I’d like to live sustainably on a farm somewhere where there are mountains nearby.
If you could go back in time, when and where would you like to live? I’d like to live here in America before the settlers came.
If you could have dinner with five famous people from history, who would they be? Lincoln, Beethoven, Clara Schumann, Brahms, and George Harrison
What is your dream opera role? I’d like to play Figaro in Rossini’s Barber.
Your career goals: I’m not sure where I will go, but I will certainly be a musician and I will most likely write a lot of music.
Is there any interesting opera backstage story you would like to share? Joe Brent and Richard Block had the entire cast of La Traviata laughing with their ridiculous New Yorker impersonations two summers ago in Greece. They are consistently hilarious backstage, which is nice to relieve any nerves about the performance.
What one word would you use to describe yourself? Interested
