Graduate Assistantships
UGA Opera Theatre offers several Graduate Assistantship positions, including those for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and baritone/bass-baritone; there is also one position for a collaborative pianist in opera. The assistantships are open to graduate-level students pursuing either a Master of Music/Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance or in Collaborative Piano. The Master’s program is a two-year degree while the D.M.A. program requires a three-year commitment.
Each position offers to the student a tuition waiver plus an annual living stipend. Enrollment fees will be charged to the student but may be deducted from the stipend.
The responsibilities of the Graduate Assistants in Opera involve participation in the opera program by singing leading roles for UGA Opera Theatre’s two full productions per year, plus additional scenes presentations, concerts for outreach programs, off-campus productions, fundraising events, and university convocations. The Graduate Assistant in Collaborative Piano works directly under the supervision of Prof. Kathryn Wright, Principal Opera Coach. In addition, the Graduate Assistant in Collaborative Piano may be asked to function as a teaching assistant and for any other mutually-agreed-upon contributions to the opera department, totaling a maximum of thirteen (13) hours per week.
